Kjeld Schmiegelow is a Professor of Pediatrics. Kjeld's research interests include the etiology of childhood cancer, the biology of leukemia, the pharmacology of anticancer drugs, and both acute and chronic toxicities, including late effects, as well as the psychosocial consequences of childhood cancer. Since 2017, Kjeld has coordinated whole-genome sequencing of germline DNA for all Danish children with cancer. He was the principal investigator of the Nordic-Baltic ALL 2008 treatment program (2008–2018) for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which included more than 3,000 patients aged 1–45 years.

Kjeld has published more than 600 scientific articles, supervised 82 PhD students, including 13 currently enrolled, and has an H-index of 89.

Henrik Hasle is professor of Pediatric hematology/oncology. Founding member of the European Working group on Myelodysplastic Syndromes in Childhood, EWOG-MDS, and has been actively involved in the group since 1993. Chairman of the acute myeloid leukemia, AML, group of the Nordic Society for Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, NOPHO, 2002 to 2010 and chairman of the International-BFM-AML study group from 2016 to 2022. Cofounder of the Adult Life after Childhood Cancer in Scandinavia, ALiCCS, research program on late effects.

Author of more than 400 papers mainly dealing with myeloid leukemia in children, genetic predisposition to cancer, and late effects after cancer therapy.

Hanne Bækgaard Larsen is a registered nurse, sociologist, and holds a PhD. She is employed as a Senior Researcher at Rigshospitalet and as an Associate Professor at University of Copenhagen. Hanne leads the psychosocial research group at Bonkolab at Rigshospitalet.

The foundation of Hanne’s research is the belief that all children should be able to live as normal a childhood as possible, even during illness. Her three main research areas are: children’s social well-being and relationships with their peers, children’s participation in daycare and schooling, and children’s opportunities to be physically active.

Hanne has supervised nine completed PhD projects, is currently supervising five PhD students, has authored 83 scientific articles, and has an H-index of 22.

Henrik Hjalgrim is professor of Haematology and heads the Haematology and Childhood Cancer group at the Danish Cancer Institute. His research focuses on the epidemiology of lymphoid malignancies across the life course and on childhood cancer, particularly the causes and outcomes of leukaemia and other malignancies. Using nationwide Danish and Nordic registers, biobanks and omics data, his group studies cancer development, treatment results, and the acute, chronic and psychosocial consequences of cancer in children and adolescents.

Henrik has authored 397 scientific publications, has an H index of 64, and has supervised 16 PhD students and nine postdoctoral researchers.

Lisa Lyngsie Hjalgrim is a Senior Consultant Pediatric Oncologist and Head of the Department of Children and Adolescents with Cancer and Benign Blood Disorders, as well as Chair of the Danish Childhood Cancer Registry.

Lisa has extensive research experience in pediatric oncology and hematology, ranging from international clinical drug trials to epidemiology, pharmacology, translational medicine, quality-of-life studies, and patient and public involvement research. Her primary research interests are lymphoma, sarcoma, and adolescent and young adult cancer patients.

This has led to many years of involvement in several international sarcoma and lymphoma consortia, where Lisa has, among other roles, served as an elected board member of the European Soft Tissue Sarcoma Study Group for the past six years.

Lisa leads several international frontline treatment protocols in Denmark, has supervised eight PhD students, and has authored 106 peer-reviewed publications.

Lene Walther is Chair of FCB – Foreningen Cancerramte Børn, a national non-profit organisation supporting children with cancer and their families across Denmark since 1995. FCB works to improve quality of life, psychosocial well-being, and social inclusion during and after treatment through family-centred support and close collaboration with Denmark’s four paediatric oncology departments, cancer organisations, and volunteers.

Lene Walther represents families affected by childhood cancer in national and international collaborations and serves on the steering committee of CONTROL, ensuring family perspectives are integrated into the project.
